When asked about the creativity behind his unique real estate success story that led him to open The Partners Real Estate, a grin appears on Derek's face as he recalls some of the more challenging marketing hurdles he faced while helping lead the McDonald's Restaurants Marketing Department in 2002. McDonald's came under intense scrutiny as Hollywood released the blockbuster documentary Super Size Me in 2004.

"Try to explain to a leadership board of men that the burgers and fries that had made them so successful over the past 35 years needed a lighter choice option (salads for moms) and if they at the time didn’t do something quickly, the government was threatening health warnings on French Fry packaging similar to label warnings on cigarette’s".

It was no easy task helping steer the McMega giant through one of the most challenging periods in its history.

After holding senior leadership positions with leading advertising agencies representing top international brands, Derek decided in 2009/2010 to channel the same ideas that had generated success for the companies he worked with into the world of real estate. Bringing his passion, creativity, and relentless work ethic to the industry, he set out to build something different.

Now, after 15 incredible years of success—and coming off the best sales period of his career, with more than $300 million in real estate sold over the last 18 months (2025 & 2026)—Derek and The Partners Real Estate have become an overall industry leader in sales while remaining true to Derek's boutique approach to selling real estate: operating like an advertising firm for homes.
